A nightcap etymology: The word "Encourage" dates back to the fifteenth century (latin roots) and literally means to inspire courage. I've been reading this book about linguistics and semantics and for some reason the little bit about "encourage" -- an everyday, arguably kind of bland sort of word -- made me pause for a moment.
